New Pokémon Snap coming to Nintendo Switch

What is Pokémon Snap?

Pokémon Snap is a first-person with rail-like shooter game aspects wherein players take photos of Pokémon in different areas of Pokémon Island. The game was released more than 20 years ago on Nintendo 64. It was a spin-off from the Pokémon Series and received mixed reviews during its time. Fast forward to 2020, Nintendo has announced New Pokémon Snap for the Nintendo Switch. Its release date is scheduled to drop in 2021, which also marks the 25th Anniversary of the Pokémon series.

What Do We Know?

The new Pokémon Snap follows suit in gameplay as its predecessor. The game introduces a new professor, Professor Mirror, who oversees the new Lental region. Players hop into the NEO-ONE to safely traverse the new region and snap photos of the wild Pokémon. Professor Mirror evaluates the photos after the player finishes their ride through the area. Photo grades are based on how centered the Pokémon are, how many are in the image, among other criteria. Replay-ability of previous stages comes from trying to score higher. If you get a high enough score, Professor Mirror will unlock a new portion of the current region you are exploring. The Pokémon series now has over 700 species of Pokémon, but only 51 have been confirmed from trailers and screenshots which will appear in the game.
